Gurthro Steenkamp is a South African prop and he represents the Bulls in Super 14 rugby.

He made his Test debut against Scotland at Murrayfield in 2004 and he played the game of his life in the following Tri-Nations. At Ellis Park Steenkamp was the man of the match against Australia in a 33-20 win.

Unfortunately Steenkamp broke his hand at the end of the Tri-Nations and he did not feature again for the Springboks for another two years. In 2007 he was selected in the World Cup squad and made two appearances as South Africa won the trophy.

He featured throughout the Tri-Nations and the autumn internationals the following year and went on to play against the British & Irish Lions in 2009.

He came on as a second-half replacement for Tendai Beast Mtawarira in the first match as the Springboks went 1-0 up in the series. Steenkamp did not play in the second Test victory, which clinched the series but he did play as a replacement in third Test defeat in Johannesburg.
