Friedrich Lombard played all his representative rugby at wing and full back before figuring at centre last season for the Cheetahs. He is a dazzling young player but was an unknown on the world stage before the Barbarians chose him for their Scottish Amicable UK tour in May last year. Came to prominence with the Cheetahs in the 1999 Vodacom Cup and his career swept on with appearances for South Africa Under 21 s and A team. Won his first full cap last week against Scotland. He was educated at the University of the Free State.
