H A DE VILLIERS ("Boy" and "Bekkie"): 1906 tour sketch

De Villiers' age is twenty-three, height 5ft 9ins, weight 12st. Has many of the characteristics of the Huguenots, and when stripped has one of the finest physiques imaginable. Plays for "S and MR` as left centre, first appearing for his province in 1904. In a swerving run he is difficult to check; can drop a fine goal, works hand in glove with the other "Stellenboschers", and will go down on the ball whatever the personal risk. Is a useful all-round cricketer. One who is never dull, nor does silence reign long when "Boy" is knocking around.
