Ryan Kankowski is a Sharks and South Africa back-row forward who made a try-scoring debut in 2007 in the Springboks' first game after they won the World Cup. They beat Wales 34-12 in Cardiff with Kankowski starting at No.8.

He has often featured as a replacement since then for his country but he started against the British & Irish Lions in the third Test in Johannesburg in 2009 as the tourists gained a consolation victory giving the home side a 2-1 series win.
