Pat Montini : Doc Craven

The man whose speed put too much strain on his muscles and who had constant problems with injuries. Possibly a funny thing to say, but that was the truth. He was so quick off the mark that his muscles couldn't take it, but if those muscles had held, the world would have known much more about Pat Montini than was the case when he played for South Africa in 1956.

Although he played well on the '56 tour to New Zealand, his injuries kept him from realising his full potential and as a result he was badly missed in some very important games. He had hamstring problems throughout that tough campaign and, all in all, his career was a tragedy. A great potential that was, sadly, never fully realised.
