Lofty Fourie : Peter Martin

Lofty Fourie was only the second South West African (now Namibian) - after Sias Swart in 1955 - to be capped by South Africa when he was selected for the first Test against France at Newlands in 1958.

A pacy wing, he escaped the wrath of the national selectors after the match was drawn 3-3, but after the second Test at Ellis Park, his services were dispensed with.

At that time there were a host of young up-and-coming wings, including Jannie Engelbrecht, Hennie van Zyl, Robert Twigge and Mike Antelme to name a few, and they were all chosen during the 1960 season.

Ironically he was the only try-scorer for South Africa in his second and last Test.
