Gerald Bosch : Doc Craven

Gerald will naturally be remembered mainly for his kicking ability because this was the department of the game where he truly excelled. Ideally he would have Paul Bayvel as his scrumhalf; these two complemented one another perfectly as a halfback combination. It was unusual that in their case the one made the other, there wasn't a dominant partner.

Gerald won many a match, not only for Transvaal but also for South Africa, with his phenomenal place-kicking ability. I often wondered how hard he had to practice to perfect his kicking - he certainly had it narrowed down to a fine art.
