Richard Prentis, loose-head prop of Diggers and Transvaal, played in 11 test matches in 1980 and 1981. He played in 4 further tour matches of the Springboks' tour to South America in 1980 where he was picked as lock in South Africa's first tour match against a Paraguay Invitation XV in AsunciĆ³n. Prentis was also afforded the honour of captaining South Africa on that day, in what was to be his first and last match as Springbok captain. South Africa easily won 84-6.
